Hello Guys,
How are you all? And how was your week?
Well, mine was not so good this time, and it gave me a painful lesson from a client, which I will discuss in this newsletter.
I thought a lot about whether I should share that painful lesson here with you or choose to discuss something else, considering the plan. But then I thought that this is why I launched this newsletter. This is my raw space where I want to share everything about my freelancing thing, and let others know that grass always looks greener on the other side. So, don’t compare your pace with others.
Okay, so I decided to share the lesson I received this week. And honestly, I think you should also know this.
Freelancing is not an easy path and have some greys. So if you ever seen somebody posting only wins then let me tell you it doesn’t always looks like this.
So, coming to the point, I had this major client, or I should say my major source of money, whom I was handling for almost 6 months.
Everything was going good, and if you’ve checked my previous edition then You must be aware of the results I have been brining for them. I can give you a quick glimpse but for details you can check my previous edition.
Their LinkedIn was growing at a good speed
The website gets 400 users per week in the initial 3 months
The posts were driving 45k traffic weekly
But then this week we had a weekly meeting as usual, and they informed me that there are some changes in the plan, and we have to shut down the work as of now due to some issues from their end.
I was flabbergasted because I didn’t expect that to come.
Honestly, I went blank when the client informed me this. Afterall that was fist time when something like this was happening with me.
But, these are the greys of freelancing, things not always go good, you see failures, disappointments, and a lot of struggles in between. Because you never know when a client can turn out as a painful lesson.
Yet, you still have to keep going on, so do I!
I took one day to relax and then decided to actively pitch and outreach more people- and you know what, I got some better responses too, though things are in the pipeline, but I had this confidence that very soon, I’ll get my track back.
What lessons should you take from this?
Never, I repeat, ever rely on one client. Keep hunting and pitching to get more work and clients. Not only will it give you the exposure of working on different things, but you will never go blank if something goes wrong with one.
Keep documenting your results, feedback, analytics, and anything that shows how you have been performing well for your past clients.
Do not limit yourself to one client because that’s not how the business and the freelance world work.
Well, if I talk about my progress in hunting and pitching, so yeah, here is a quick review:
Reached out to one brand in the health and wellness domain, and they liked my work and took my details to collaborate in the future.
Did outreach. They liked my portfolio and gave me a positive response. Things are still in the pipeline, and very soon we will work together.
Applied for an opportunity in the tech and AI niche and got a positive response, plus a sample assessment to move ahead. Because I was enjoying covering tech and AI content. So, fingers crossed.
Also trying to get my hands dirty in LinkedIn ghostwriting as I was managing my client’s LinkedIn, so gonna use it for my portfolio. Let’s see how it goes.
Although I’m still hunting, doing outreach, this time I took a turn and tried experiment some new things. Because I don’t want to limit myself to writing blogs only neither should you.
Things are going positively, I might share some good results in the next edition, or if we are connected over LinkedIn, I might share a glimpse there.
But now I’m more available to onboard clients, mainly in e-commerce, tech, health, and lifestyle domains. So if you’re a founder reading this or someone who is looking for a writer in this similar domain, or would love to collaborate on something new, welcome, I’d love to chat and collaborate!
Also trying to experiment with myself in new niches because I never want to limit myself so early in one thing, and of course, there is a lot to learn in the freelance world.
One more thing, I’ve started doing and shared on LinkedIn as well- posting my samples on Medium, I wrote as a part of an assignment for my previous gigs that did not work.
I found them hidden in my Google doc, so I decided to give them the real place they deserve.
If you also have samples in your doc or Google Drive, then don’t let them be in your drafts; better start posting them on Medium to show your future clients.
I mean, who knows when one of your old samples will bring you a new client!
Although this edition was supposed to hit your inbox today only, I’m in my hometown, so due to some personal reasons, I have to delay the delivery. And I apologise sincerely. But I think consistency matters, so I decided to deliver it a bit late.
Btw, I have also decided to make a sheet for tracking my outreach and pitching progress to make sure I stay updated and remember to take follow-ups.
Might reveal on LinkedIn soon.
Ohh, I remember- I was watching The Demon Slayers from last weekend and honestly enjoying the series a lot. This is my first anime, and I want you guys to drop recommendations if you’re also an anime lover and have some amazing names.
Till then, Tadaaaa!
You can slide in my DM if you’ve any queries or if a project in your mind.
See you in my next newsletter.
With love.
Take Care,1
