The costly mistake most D2C brands make with Meta ads- and how it’s quietly snatching your ROI.
Hello People 👋
Welcome back to my newsletter and a space where I share sneak peek to my personal and professional thingsl!
Well, there July is wrapped and aug has started so everybody might have set some new goals this month so do I.
And to accomplish one of these goals- I was checking and auditing D2C brands and e-commerce platforms lately.
Although- you might have an idea already from the headline and hook that what I'm going to talk about here: catchy hooks isn't it 👀
Okay, so cut to the point!
Lately, I've been auditing and analysing D2C brands which includes some reputed ones.
I stumbled on them either via Meta ads or while I was searching some personal stuff.
And you know what I found?
The brands who are spending heavilyyyy on Meta Ads and constantly were appearing in my feed- their blog section is sitting quietly like a Horror Mansion!
It was feeling like inviting your customers via Ads but keeping your shelves empty or incomplete.
The Problem: Missing Blog Section or Quality Content
No doubt, Ads are necessary to bring visibility and generated leads specially when your brand is newly launched; but spending heavilyy is not a wise strategy.
You're leaving so much on table just by overlooking your blog section!
Ads are useful but without blogs?
No organic discovery
No retention
No credibility
No support for SEO growth
Ads bring results until they are running but the moment they stop- no leads> no traffic
Whereas blogs works for long, even the days you're not posting- they will still drive traffic and bring conversions.
A Real Example: Case Study of Yoho (A D2C Footwear brand)
Lately when I was scrolling instagram I stumbled on a Meta Ad of Yoho. It wa obvious because I searched for orthopaedic sleepers a few minutes back (algorithm yk)
So I did, what any other strategist or a writer couldn't help but do. Checked their website and jumped into their blog section.
I was shocked seeing their content section was last updated in 2024; with
No footcare guides
No internal linking
Nothing that educated or converts
These basic SEO practice is snatching a lot from them like:
Why Founders Should Care About Their Blog Section
Founders often focus on sales, but underestimate the power of strategic content posting.
They should also focus on blogs by connecting them to:
Conversion support content (buying guides, product use-cases)
Brand visibility beyond paid ads
Revenue that comes from Quality Content.
Customer education (which helps with returns and loyalty)
Revenue that compounds through evergreen content
"Your ads work hard. Your content should work harder- and longer.”
How To Fix: Start Small, Scale Smart
A 3-step quick guide to check and fix your blog section:
Audit your blog section – Is it active, helpful, and strategic?
Align blog topics with your ad offers – Don’t treat them as separate.
Turn products into content – Buying guides, how-tos, routines, comparisons.
Update them as and when- Content should be updated after every 3 months to make sure that there are no issues from the SEO point of view.
If you're spending heavily on Ads but skipping blogs- you're not using your fullest marketing potential (yeah that's true).
Recently, I've helped Lo Foods and Yoho by auditing their blog section and shared actionable content strategies to bring potential results.
I also shared a detailed carousel over linkedin where I talked about how they can improve/fix their content section to build what they truly deserve.
